I just finished reading the book "the name of the rose." One of the most exciting books I have ever read. Almost life-changing. Anyway, I have always prefered to watch a movie rather than read a book, with very exceptions. This time around, I wanted to do the book justice. I read it, then watched the movie. I was excessively disappointed. It was probably better suited for a mini-series rather than a movie. The casting was terrible, though. It had nothing to do the descriptions in the book. The abbey and the buildings were perfect. But the cast, the acting, the script, the environment.... Aghhhh. Nothing felt right about the movie. It was the same feeling I got when I finally watched the Wall (pink floyd.)
It almost makes me want to go film school just to be able to redo the movie.
Lesson learned: read the book, if you like it, never watch the movie; unless it was of course done by a Japanese producer in anime format (anyone seen Berserk?)
