I remember, about a year ago, I came across a sound on the internet by a Moroccan living in America. The music was Moroccan infused with jazz music. I lost the internet link and completely failed to make note of his name. Recently, I rediscovered the artist through a deja-vu feeling while surfing youtube. This time I am making sure to make note of his name. Not only that, I am trying to find everything about him and hope one day I can meet this fascinating man. Our friend is Yassir Chadly. A distinctive and creative personality with many dimensions. He is a musician and master of several instruments. A spiritual person. An artist. A storyteller. His wife Khadija Chadly is a ceramist artist and a filmaker. Please visit Yassir and Khadija's website for more information, and visit Yassir's youtube blog for more videos produced by his talented wife.
Below, I am providing links to a storytelling, standup comedy performance by Yassir in 10 parts. It is yet one of the best performances I have seen of a Moroccan American. So inspiring. We do owe Yassir all the respect, and for paving the way for future generations of Moroccan Americans to marry the best of their culture with the American fabric of life.
