salma salma
08:01:28 AM Saturday Nov 1, 2008

Hi,
Does any have a copy of the old song: "salma salma, salbani ya bent mmi, khatbihaali..."
For some reason, it's been invading my head lately... of course it had to happen when I have to prepare for mid-terms.
Thanks,
R-Gee

I found the song, finally, after significant help from Hamza (our own wiz wiz in wejda.) This site is pretty cool, you'll have to select the song from the blue menu below the player. http://www.zdooh.com/Artiste,Orchestre-Chams,276.html

Wow! ...This song was buried in my memory. I forgot it for at least two decades. I wouldn't have remembered it if this note had not pulled it from the very depth of my memory. It reminds mmy of early youth, of the "popular parties" we had after tough exams...

Pieces of the lyrics that came back were a bit different from what Rasta remembered:

SalBa SalBa! Salbani ya bent ummi! ....

I don't know what are the correct words. Maybe those reported by Rasta are. It looks so far back in time... I am a bit nostalgic.

I'm sure I've heard this song before albeit a long time ago. It sounds like a song from the 70s.. If you know the singer or the genre, Try to look in the archive of Moroccan music from MEDI 1. Some gurus came up with a great iphone app called Shazam that is able to tell you, in seconds, a song's name and artist, album just by providing a few seconds of the song to the app. You basically point your iphone to the speaker playing the song. Maybe one day the database that the app uses will span all kind of music, and your problem will be solved literally in seconds.. Try it, who knows, maybe they already have this song in there!
