I Don't Trust Moroccan Officials: Why?
07:59:04 PM Sunday Dec 7, 2008

I'm not sure how this question crossed my mind today, but I know I've thought about it before. This time though, it presented itself clearly in mind. Some people might call me naive. They would say, oh! for God's sake, everybody knows the answer, you must be living under a rock. The question mark was brightly lit over a dark gooey background in my imagination. I couldn't miss it as I blinked, when I was almost about to miss my exit on the highway. The question is why do I have this continuous and uneasy feeling that Moroccan government officials, whether in Morocco or in the US, are a bunch of rascals, a corrupt gang, a collection of everything that embodies untrustworthiness and never-do-good, except for a few selected handful that I had a close encounter with. I will not provide names, but one of the good ones shines from an office in New York City. Someone who was kind, humble and understanding enough to extend my passport, on a Eid day, a couple of days before I had to take a critical trip overseas.

Why do I find myself always questioning the intention of Moroccan officials beforehand, being skeptical about their ideas, and defensive in my conversations. Why do I find myself referring to them as "That idiot", "That bas", "That rascal", "That and that!". The interesting thing is that I find myself extending this to Moroccans who defend Moroccan officials and try to ally with them or win their friendship and acquaintance.

You might have the answer to my question. But I realize that I am not merely looking for an answer.. I might be looking for something beyond an answer, something more powerful than an answer. I might be looking for a practical solution. I want to be part of this solution.

Dear friends,
Moroccan officials represent a sample of Moroccan society. Witch certainly suffers a huge lack of self-sufficiency.
I mean, every individual, regardless of background, education or creed, he tends to interiorize every step he wants to do in this life as a project. Getting out of bed, seal a passport or having an aspirin.
If this person didn’t develop its self-sufficiency or doesn’t have any at all, it will be very difficult for him to complete any project, he proposed to do.
In my humble opinion and because of the relationship I had, I have and I will have with Moroccan people, I think that we are just dropping string of colonialism, surrounded by neighbors who lived in the same misery, if not worse. From the European dictatorships of the Mediterranean to colonialism. (Many people learn by observation and we couldn’t)
Our people need a key role model to see and understand that you can take a project and get to finish it.
They need to see and understand that not everything needs an external help, and I mean corruption in the first place.
It is important to learn to say No! With all its aspects, no, I cannot! I do not want! No, do not know, I have no time ... etc.
we confuse a lot the will of doing something with making the thing itself.
I believe that to reach an acceptable level of self-sufficiency, trust must be interior and exterior. Ibn Al Arabi insisted on “Jamal” and then “Jalal”.
To do this, we must revise our educational system, our value system, our legal system, our economic system, our family system ...
I say review and not change. There is a philosopher who once said: The illiterate of the twenty- touched by my Spanish.first century is not the one, who cannot read or write, but, who does not know how to learn, unlearn and relearn.
Sorry if my English is a bit touched by my spanish

More important than trusting officials or mis-trusting them is to trust
yourself ,your integrity and exittential beeing. I used to live in Germany for several yaers and was very septical and behaved like a revolutio, because I was Non-conformist. Later I found out that transposing and reflecting a negative image of our own Homeland would'nt help improving the situation and I learner to behave diefferntly and adapt my thoughts, my speech to situations I lived. Not every boday is able to understund your point of view ,and many people are undifferent since they don't feel the need of evolution or reforms.

Adnane. Beautiful sura . Yes, people are either Spirit driven or Ego driven.
Those who are spirit driven act out of a belief system, it could be the Constitution, religion, patriotism, materialism, capitalism, communism, vegetarianism, humanism etc... The spirit driven people strive to achieve an ideal and will not stop until they get there. The Ego driven people act according to their changing needs and interests, and they are known of being unreliable and having limited potentials.

To have a belief system for a nation, a common denominator based on common interests has to be found, or created. Since there is no constitution, no national pride, no language or ideal admired by all Moroccans, the only common denominator left is religion.
One can keep 3000 goals for himself, but he should spare at least one common and precise goal with the rest of the Moroccans. would it be fighting corruption, saving orphans, joining a charity programme or an Anti-7ogra commission.

Religion seem to remain the only seed still carried by all Moroccans of all ranks, we should take it from there...Yes, when religion is combined with ignorance it gives you a boutagaz, but we also do have many destructive silent Boutagazes, who walk and talk in the name of modernism and democracy, but deep down they are Ego driven characters who can take any shape at any given time...Spiritual awareness in the only remedy for both cases.

People in power have the means to issue laws that protect the citizen, provide him with dignity, so that he can start believing that it is not a crime to be Moroccan; educational programs could be set up with the clear purpose of educating the Moroccan about his rights as well as his obligations. Such programs could be taught at school and broadcasted through all media channels to the rest of the Moroccans 24/7.
But where are the responsible people willing to take the country to that direction...?

All I see is Studio 2M, lalla la3roussa, sickening entertainment, Jawal and Miditil :), as if there would be no crisis what so ever.

Time to wake up that camel from sleep, before he dies...

Allah ydina Fswab wsafi.

Antr ~ you say that religion should be taught the right way, and given the roles it deserves. I absolutely agree that religion should be there with Moroccans from day one, so that if a tiny bunch of Moroccans get the unfortunate fate of ending up in government, to remember the religious teachings of justice, hard work, honesty and compassion. But do you really think a country should rely on such a mechanism that is based on probability for tiny results? The teaching of religion may not be the end solution. I think what is needed is a serious extension to that: the monitoring and watchdog of those taught religion. You may call me crazy, but without a system in place to monitor the process of teaching religion and the product alike, the country will keep on blowing in the wind. Shit will hit the fan multiple times, and the cycle will continue. It will not matter whether Le Maroc Est En Chantier, or whether Le Maroc Est En Shit.

But how can you device such a system? what does it mean to monitor the process of teaching religion and the product alike? the product being the people. the process being the body of who, what and how religion is taught.

Now, I know that what's I've said so far is too abstract. I know that I better be zoom in. When I did, I found that I better teach myself a new religion, and not my religion. The new religion started penetrating me upon hearing the following verse, the ending passage of Sourat Al-Furqan, and to me a legendary passage. A passage that if it were to be taught word by word, line by line, meaning by meaning, to every single new Moroccan out there, and the effect of every line in the passage seriousely monitored and enforced, I believe Morocco will rebuild itself. Rebuild hearts and souls, and not mere fading shiny buildings.

You don't trust the Moroccan officials because the Moroccan administration does not deserve trust. it is that simple . :-)

Typically, an official is synonym of threat . So you either have submit or rebel against him !
It is a master/slave relationship installed in the sub-conscious of the Moroccans since childhood, regardless of their categories and ranks.

To minimize the spread of such a cultural virus, I think the Moroccan responsibles should at least educate their stuff abroad, or even better, they could select Qualified individuals living/lived abroad for diplomatic missions.

I know it sounds like "transplanting" a healthy branch to a rotten tree, but I don't have a quick fix.
The solution is in the hands of the Moroccan politicians, who promote the culture dial 7ogra, starting from the teacher humiliating the student, to the director touching the butt of his secretary passing by the official stepping over the citizen, or the citizen humiliating his fellow citizen.

If the establishment does not have the will and guts, or simply refuses to solve the problem, then the ultimate and only alternative left is a return to the source : Values ! Everything else would be aesthetic...

"La far9a li K7al-rass 3ala K7al Rass illa bi ta9wa !"

Religion should be thought the right way, and given the roles it deserves !
