This is something that's come up several times before in conversations with friends but I'd like to get as much information as possible.

If I want to receive receive arabic tv channels, what are my options?

Dish Networks was something that people talk about a lot as well as direct tv. Are all the options subscription-based where you have to pay a monthly fee, or are there some where you can get channels for free?

Anyway, I thought there would be a lot of people with different pieces of information.

Thanks

hmm. I don't even have a tv at my place and probably won't be buying one anytime soon but from what I understand there are those on a monthly subscription plan and it seems they have more flexibility to select what channels they want to access. I suggest checking those us-based arabic newspapers that you find at the middle east grocery stores. they are usually chock full of ads for satellite tv services, so you can call them and ask how it all works.
right now the only reason i'd want tv is to watch the taraweeh prayers in makkah and hear the readings. oh and there's that khalid ibnul waleed series on Mbc that i never got to finish. It was really good - i actually liked it. anyone have Mbc? fill me in :)
