Nabil Andalous : Batterie.
Abdelhak Amal : Clavier chorale.
Ghefara Belattar : Percussions, chorale.
Issam kamal : Chant, guitare, composition, arrangement.

I'm pasting this message from a Raioo Fan, I think it belongs best in this topic:

"I really liked the topic : "Do You Play Music" because it reminded me of my dream of making a Rai song, They say that i have the voice, but i need someone that could help me make a song, since i'm not in Morocco anymore, i wonder if we have poeple like that in the U.S , people that know the value of our North African music." Sanabelle, COLORADO

Sanabelle, I think it'll be though to sell Rai voice in the US. In Europe, maybe.. I hope someone will come across this topic, in the US, and show interest in your projects. Do you have some recordings on .wav or .mp3 you can share with us?

Also, how about you give MTV Teen Idol a shot :]

salut tolmonde........salamou alikoum drari :)
i think moroccan music is the best i ever heared......specialy rai and chaabi........and i think that we have a special tune which no 1 can make like, music lyrics also ,no 1 in arab world sing ......
rai music which is becoming more popular has also a special taste,i mean our ear can taste to.......
i play rai music on my org,try also to introduce new style and it success that because of the flexibilty of rai music to scope a mix of traditional music, rap, pop, sharki and whatever....
i m trying to make a small rai music band here in amman-jordan where there are just few people who knows about our morocan music and introduce it soon....hope i will do so and make an album maybe.looool.......

Antr McShaddad (Yahia.L) message

Yes MON ;)...I know what you mean by dusty instruments...
Years back, I bought a small guenber made of a turtle shell (ShaQfa dial Lfakroune), now I am hanging in the kitchen with a triangular moroccan flag on its top.
Who ever sees it wants to play with it.
although it has just 2 strings left.
As for my humble keyboard, it can play some 150 different instruments. including drums, percussion etc...
and some 100 recorded rythms.
Needless to say that nothing matchs the sound of the real drums or QerQabat dial Gnawa, or even LemQass dial ShettaH
dial Lkarrou. Huhuhuh
Up till now, I havent been marking the keys eachone by its note, I just go on a Stevie Wonder mode (;@
relying on my instincts, and memorizing, roughly, what key gives what sound.....
Palying it as classical piano is a bit less
easy: every false note can be hear separately, making it hard to cover up.
Changing it into an organ, is much easier.
because instead of TAN/TAN sound, you hear CHANGCHANG made of a combination of different audio
spectrums overlaping eachothers so to speak...
in otherwords, they back up eachother.
In a band, the instrument players "cover up" eachother when needed...wich is not the case when you play solo.

I am still an amateur though, and will always remain.

I will get to some cable connecter to my PC, and post some Midi stuff.
So be hold, I might bring 3issawa out of you people.

Stevie WAnter (:P

I acn ensure that i know how mp3 are written just for your record I am a phd student in computer engineering and i know what i am taliking about and i know for sure how you got your mp3 anyway i am no trying to argue here i just don't like people who act and act a lot. anyway the purpose here is to get people to talk about their music and share if they can..i am not gonna take a flight to morocco to get a cd but i do share with liberal people what they the way nobody needs your sharing there are so many users who share their files and to those who asked about how to get alghiwan you can try many programs like Kazaa once you install it type morocco and you will get more than 15gig of moroccan music...freind i hope you still have space in your computer for more interesting stuff..salam

hakda chwiya w hakda chwiya.

I have all Jilala songs as MP3 files. same for Ghiwane and Lemchahab. I am willing to share if someone is interested. Cham3a was interpreted by Jilala, but belongs to Toulali de Meknes.

Are you talking about Chqara?

4:21 pm    January 21, 2003
amine : you'e definitely right. this song should be a patrimoine marocain. one thing you need to know cham3a is not a jiljilala song though they made their own version of it.
originally it's composed by one of the best mal7oun singer and composer who died i think 3 or 4 years ago. he's from tangier i and i'll give you the name when i 'll remember it.

if you liked the jiljilala version you'll appreciate the original one.

Now that the storm has passed, we can talk music again.
I found an old Jil Jilala tape that I used to listen to when I was preparing for my BAC; it's the one that has the song about Sham3a. Those guys had some fantastic lyrics. The songs were religious, kind of social, but most amazingly they were also love songs. They might have had some sufi background because the lyrics were about love for god, but they were written in such a romantic way that one would think the person was talking to his lover (then again, perhaps that is the beauty of the sufi way.)
Anyway, if anyone has a chance to listen to the tape, I would urge you to pay attention to the lyrics. I will try to convert some to MP3 and see if DJ Adnane can stream them through Raioo radio.
Take care everyone, and every now and then take care of each other as well.

Antr McShaddad welcome back buddy, your contributions are always inspiring and genuine ;)

I bought once a guembri from Beb Marrakesh for 250 Dhs and it's still here with me.. only it's pikcing up dust. But I enjoy connecting it to a small ampli I have (got it for like $20 used) .. it gives this beautifull rich sound in ampli.. the way I connect it is with those gum connectors you stick to the body of the Guenbri or classical guitar.

I also have a professional Derbouka got it as a gift from my egyptian fiend, got those blue transparent tops, very neat. but again it's picking up dust. the same friend got me a Oud.. and yes you guessed it, it's picking up dust also.

So Antr if you can make us listen to your midi files maybe I'll get motivated to bring my instruments to life again.

Here in Boston, when we get together sometimes (we don't do that often these days, everyone is busy) we sit around the floor, after couscous and Lben, mint tea, mozarella cheese and nuts, we play bendir (got 2) derbouka, gnawa qerqabatt,,etc it's a lot of fun, it relieves your stress and like Antr said it pushes negative energy out of the house.

Amine I agree with you on how we get to appreciate Moroccan music more when you're away from Morocco, Shikhatt, gnawa, jilala, 3issawa etc. Sometimes I tune in to raioo radio after work, and thanks to the variety of the playlist many music styles and songs that I was skeptical about in the past redeem themselves.

Lhya, Of course you are in title to express your opinion, nobody should forbid you from doing that.
But when one starts talking about UFOs, while the main topic is the Moroccan cuisine... to me that has nothing wirth freedom of speech, it is rather freedom of sabotage...

Should I not mention that I play the keyboard, just because I never had one in the past ??
Well, in that case, maybe we shouldn't talk about computers, since propably none of us had one in Morocco...
and whats up with Derbouka or Guenber ?
They are good music instrument too.
and I like the sound of Guenber.
In Morocco you can get a guitage for 500Dh, and many Moroccan youths, who like playing music, do have one.
for 300 Dh you can get the best Guenber in the souk.
Havent had a guy in your neighbourhood who played a guitare, kamanja or something like that ?
Why do I get the impression that you make everything so complicated ?

1:24 pm    January 21, 2003
Actually, the topic is self choosen by one person, it may be good one but not the imediate appropriate to talk about! it s abosloutely true that Music and moroccan music is one of the rcihest in the world: we have our own style, we don t steal from other styles: let s talk about the egyptian, they have the same style than the russian music, Med abdewaheab was stealing many parts and verses from the russian sympohonies,....
My point to be added is that we are not in critical situation about music , we do have a bunch of primordial topics to be discussed... Politics is over, now they talk about management and self improving , ...
Even, in our culture there is no place in learning music, antr, you said that u play derbouka, sure from oulad derb!!! Adnane, witht he guitar, is very hard to get it from oulad derb and not that many men oulad derb ply guitar, it s for that you did not get long with it,... lakain chi Chiakh oula chi Aita...
Another point: I m here in, la ou je devrais donner mon point de vue meme si le webmaster est unhappy for it!!!

Antr McShaddad (Yahia.L) message
Adnane's comment may have been direct and strait forward, but I don't think it was inapropreate at all.

I suppose poeple are free to express freely their opinion about what ever topic...
BUT withing the section reserved to such a topic !
A person who cann't do even that, have most likely unorganized folders in his computer, and probably has difficulties to organize his own thoughts and later his life in general...:)

Issami&Lhia, you just cann't pass by a table where some poeple are talking football, and tell them " GET REL (!!) and tel's talk about Driss Lbasri, Tazemamert and worldwar 3 !
You want to impose a topic on a crowd already discussing something else, and yet you claim that poeple should have the freedom to express their opinion.
You are contradicting yourselves my friends.

It is frustrating to see grown up Moroccans kidnaping the main topic over and over again, and we end up lecturing eachothers about basic stuff.

And finally, there is nothing wrong with talking about music, even nations living in war zones, sing and dance from time to time...

Also if any one has the lyrics for Jila Jilala song "Naker La7ssan".

Issami, how did I not answer you fairly ? you complained about my being NOT real by NOT discussing Morocco's problems and how to fix.. and rather opening a discussion about music and music players. I responded to your complaint by saying Raioo is not here to discuss drama all the time! there are several discussion groups (Social, technology, Spiritual, etc) browse what you want or wait til a new one that you can contribute to starts. You had the right to complain, I also have the right to express my complaint about your way of thinking, or do you find that hard to deal with ?

Listen, you can't just feel at some point during your day that you want to discuss Morocco's politics, go and type and expect a topic about Morocco's politics in the front page! that's my point. I'm innocent of any of your accusations that I am trying to show up or shut you off. I am actually disappointed to hear that from Lhyia given that I've noticed he wrote many messages in different raioo discussions.

Anyways, let me just stop here and join my friends about the Moroccan music players.

Growing up in Oujda, my ears became accustomed to the beating drums of L'3laoui and L3arfa; so much that I found any other type of Moroccan music deplorable (chikhat, what was that all about!?) Now, after years away from Morocco, I not only miss the chikhat music but understand and appreciate the diversity of musical expression in Morocco. From gnawa to malhoun to chikhat to te3rija to 3laoui and of course to Rai (perhaps godfather of this site) it all makes sense and combines beautifully to weave that colorful web that is Morocco.

Issami, do you expect me to always provide topics of discussion about dirty social problems ? dramatic world events ? Raioo is as diverse as the world around you, and as a matter of fact, art and comedy is the other central essence of Raioo. Take what you want and leave others enjoy what they want. On another note, how about you start by looking into yourself and see what can be fixed, before looking at our huge Morocco.. unbelievable how people usually think they're smarter than the government. It's not easy ok? you're not just gonna fix Morocco by attacking each other on some online discussions,.. one has to start with oneself.. these discussions are here just to help us learn how to communicate peacefully and in a mature and intellectual manner.

Good luck.

I have played the bass sometimes... but recentlty I bought a Panasonic keyboard, and up till now it is one of my best friends.
I don?t have full control of all the keys yet, but I do play some pieces.
And as a Reggae addict since teen age, I get much pleasure following an Northern African Reggae beat (Khalid?s muscians are excelent!)
and keep jumming till the bad spirits leave my house.

I will have to work on posting some Medi files over the Net sometime...but time is lacking for the time been.

May the Powa? of the positive vibrations be with you.
