Had this intense feeling of nostalgia today for the summer immediately following my undergrad graduation. It was a happy summer, away from papers and homework, armed with a satisfying job. So I headed over to NU for a quick refresher visit. Despite the new buildings, everything still feels the same. The library smells the same, as does the Ell building (that same aroma from the cafeteria downstairs.) Students taking summer courses were buzzing around, along with groups of prospective students and parents. I made my Dhuhr prayer in the sacred space, and headed out of campus.
Then I headed over to Bread & Circus for lunch. I remember when it was home to a dicey Stop n Shop, where the smell of rotten veggies greeted you at the door. That's been now replaced with the smell of picture perfect sweet fruits and nature conscious eye candy everywhere. At least some things change.
