King Mohammed 6: Too Silent After Casa Aftermath 5/16
12:00:00 AM Monday May 26, 2003

President Bush addressed the American Nation hours after the 9/11 attacks. Hours later he addressed the nation again and eventually conveyed his vision. It has been more than a week, and His Majesty King Mohammed 6 hasn't spoken a word yet to the public of Morocco in TV, to say something about what happened. To address the population and convey his vision, his policy, his challenges. Do you think the King is being too silent ? What does it mean ? Is it suggesting that he is reforming the monarchy towards a style similar to Spain, Denmark, UK, where he lets the government do the job ?

The critics and analysts are talking about this, and here is a recent article I found:
Moroccan king's silence since attacks puzzles some (Reuters)

They got you on the track they want every Moroccan to be on, ?blame the citizen ?
1) As long as we still believe that democracy is given to the people and no one is willing to sacrifice, ? you and your kids and there kids??., will never see that day?
2) As long as we still kiss his and others dirty hands, we deserve to be wiped, and kicked on the ass when ever they wish.
3) Think, and think again, did you come to USA by choice. or it was the only hope
To build a future for your self, if this the case, how come you couldn?t do that back home, and who do you blame? Is it your self or the Darn GOV.?

Hello everyone!
The reason why the Moroccan King was too silent after Casa Attacks is because he believes more in action than words.

Have got some comments? Please write them down.Thank you.

The speech of his majesty left me unsatisfied. First, I was surprised that he blamed the misuse of democracy by some people. I don't agree that democracy or free speech were the main causes of the attacks. I would rather blame it on the lack of liberty and good governance. Secondly, I would have liked to hear in plain words and directly the new measures that are to be taken by the governement to face and uproot the causes that might have played a role in this horrible attacks. Democracy is a long and tedious path, and no one can give moroccans a miracle solution. However, we can easily trace this road and stay commited to improvement of the lives of our fellow citizens. Now who is commited???? I don't know, it seems to me as if non one cares or gives a damn.

Full text of the speech delivered by H.M. King Mohammed VI on May 29, 2003

Praise be to God His, is the only Eternal Kingdom

My Loyal Subjects,

I have promised to be frank and sincere with you at all times, whatever the circumstances. I refrained from addressing the nation immediately after the terrorist attacks were perpetrated in Casablanca and from telling you that we had won the battle against terrorism in just one night or over a period of a few days. As I trust your wisdom and clear-sightedness, and as I believe in our mutual commitment to share our responsibilities at all times and to confront difficult situations courageously, I felt that this was a time for action and determination.

As you were able to see, I immediately issued orders which made it possible to bring the situation under control. In this connection, I wish to commend the efforts made by the citizens and by the various public authorities who will remain constantly mobilized, ready to help you and to provide for the nation's stability.

To draw the necessary lessons from what happened and to work together to prevent recurrence of such events, I thought I should speak to you today and ... more

During my last visit to Morocco, the king was visiting Oujda, and I had the chance to see his televized speech for the first time.
It was completely different from what we are used to...After the greetings, he went strait to the projects that were given the green light in Oujda and it's regions.
talking in numbers about their costs, and the number of jobs they will provide.
It was a scientific and brief...
after he read the list, he greeted the Moroccans and that was it !

I did ike that !
As for why he hasnt personally denounced the terrors acts on casa, I cann't unswer that, but
I don't think that what he thinks about it is unknown to the Moroccans...
the chalenge is what should be done about that, and How...

daro, you're not making common sense. This topic is not to demean the king in any way. This is not about his moustache or how he looks. If moustache or gadouma or beard were a sign of wisdom and capability the 3enzie (rajel lma3za) would be a king.

well,Think of the situation that M6 talks to the nation saying (with a voice of a kid ;) ) : cha3bia al 3aziiz ....and then everyone will hear him all over the world.I think that M6 knows that he looks very young and that his mind is of a tennager. that's why he is trying to hide himself with mostach o la7ia.

why do we nned the king to address the people? it has been done by other people. we just got used to have a speahc every month. what is there to say? you got cauth by surprise and every thing is in order now i don't need to hear a speach about only that may be in his next big speach he will mention this incident or may be he just waiting to get all the facts and profes in fron of him. i don't think he wants to make the same mistake he made about petrol when he jumped to conclusion and gave a speach saying that we have petrol in east of morocco and months later he said that we don't, Now that should not happen and we were so eager to hear those rumers coming out from the king's mouth. I for this reason don't want the king to give a speach till he is ready.khayibaba kan7abkoume kamline

It is very crucial and important for every one to know that The King Ain't got no Magic Stick (not that, you dirty mind) to do everything just right. Besides, I think the king's actions have a hidden message to the terrorists as well as the people. A speech is to be delivered to the Moroccan people but without magnifying the affect of terror as far as the government is concerned. Since the king is a highest symbol of our government, he shoudln't be the one to deliver the speech. ( This is just an assumption to why there was no speech from our king) Lastly, There are abundant ways that people can suggest to how the young king should have handled the public during this tragedy, so relatively there is no right decision.Peace N Love

Yeah, intersting topic here, But I do not think we need the king to talk everytime. We should expect Driss Jettou to talk and explain, I think that it is a good thing if the king is giving up power and giving more responsabilties to the Government. Did you guys heard of the case of Ali Lamrabat, I do not think he deserves 4 years in Jail, otherwise we should forget about freedom in Morocco and all our dreams of a better Morocco.

better_m, you asked a good question whether the king's ruling style focuses more on achievement than talking? I believe it should be both. Even if he understands what he has in his mind, he is one of the 30 million who need to know. In this case of Casa bombings, besides visting the sites, he could have addressed the people in TV, expressed personnaly his sorrow and support, and asked everyone to go back and focus on their daily life. Even officials and prezes of other countries throughout the world expressed their condoleances and sympathy! We know that our internal intelligence is working hard and with outside help to figure things out, but he could just drop it in a speech himself. Most importantly, he probably could mention that these youth lacked some social caliber that could have prevented what happened, and that he is determined more than ever to improve the youth situation. The youth was his major goal when he started ruling. Maybe if he said that it will be an argument against him? that he failed so far to provide a nourishing environment for the youth?

After all, the King cannot do everything, I understand that, but he can keep in touch with his people, and remind them of the vision and the goals he has defined or helped the government define. CEOs do that in companies, especially when there is trouble when employees tend to lose focus, panic, and worse start guesing and coming up with stories. His speeches should be addressed to all calibers of society, they should be able to understand what he is saying, be it low, middle or high class. They should translate his speech to all major languages in Morocco.

Hassan 2, ra7mahu allah, ruled, I observe, with a notion that his surroundings are the lawmakers, the policymakers, the decision makers, and he can't involve everyone else in society, because majority is illeterate and their decision wouldn't be necssarily the right thing to do. I guess the gap between the intellect and the illeterate is still wide enough to keep this old way of governing. Until there are enough literate voices in society, elite, businessmen and coterie will dominate the power and the money.

casaoui ur right! i mean he's been in power for 4 years he should've benefit from them, look at king abdulah of jordan, i recall very well just after he became a king he couldn't even speak good arabic, look at him now, he speaks arabic so fluently, he even give news conference in arabic and english, what bout our king?

Moad,I don't think our need few more years to improve his public relations skills. He's on the trone for 4 years now, he would've done some effort to show his charism to the public, and I'm sure his father have done enough to prepare him. But nothing u can do about it, I believe public relations skills are innate. As we've seen in the article, he don't adress the nation as much as his father use to do, and he'd never gave a news conference, etc.

Well, that's really surprising not to hear any message from our king. I would like to hear his own opinion about what happened, but if you see lately, he was moving and visiting the bombed sights and the victims in hospital. Is it a new style of ruling that relies more on achieving than just talking? This Incident will for sure help our country decide its own destiny, so we can know our goals and our plans. Let's us know that the king is not an absolute power, and that as a nation we should decide our own matters. The governement now should work more than it does, and prove to us that they are all there to work for us and prove our lives. I would love to see a reformed monarchy, like the one in England, Spain. A symbolic Manarchy that would represent us only in anniversaries, and jubilees. A prime minister with power, would help us progress, and move on towards a democratic country. Salam.May God bless Morocco, and all moroccans.
