I've been following the trends of socializing online, and it's really interesting to see how it moves and changes. Of course nobody has been able to beat or even come close to raioo's approach ~ just kidding :)
If you look at facebook, they started the lead by what they termed news feed, a dynamic collection of interleaved journals of all your friends and sometimes friend's friends. It's fun, intimate yet overwhelmingly bombarding. It's a sea of status and comments, and once in a while you spot a comment, video or photo worth checking. Yet, it boils down to the idea that facebook ironically remains an island despite the wooping 350+ Million subscribers! facebook is all about monopolizing the social network.
Google are working the beta of what they termed "Wave". Wave is a branch of social networking and from what I've read and used (since I'm a beta tester) it is a social network that can move around with you; it becomes ubiquitous as long as the websites you visit are plugged in into the google Wave (not to get into specific details about how to plugin). The idea is for google not to recreate a facebook-like social network that becomes an island despite having millions of people on it. So far google in my mind has the beta lead. We have to see wave launched and the plugin into the google wave an easy process.
Recently, google, interestingly and quietly launched another branch of social networking concept that is quiet similar to Wave. I believe it uses Wave technology. This new thing is called "Buzz" and you will see it anytime now in your Gmail, right under your 'Inbox" link on the left side. When you click it, you will see a page with a personal comment field on top, and underneath you see a facebook-like interleaved journals of friends you choose to follow. Conceptually, this is a mix of tweeter and facebook news-feed.
So, I just wanted to share this Gmail Buzz thing with you because I like it a lot. I'm a Gmail believer and power-user. I can now share interesting emails or thoughts right there when I check my gmail.. which is every 15 min or so! You may be wondering.. so what's the deal with the white horse?
His name is Buzz, and he's Moroccan; and I love his trotting posture!
so if you want you can add me to your Buzz: adnane ( d.o.t ) benali ( a.t ) gmail ( d.o.t ) com
Cheers
