I like the way Michael Moore approaches to Islam and talk about the Quran. I'm not muslim, but I have a deep respect for muslims and Islam. The culture and civilization Islam created all over the world is magnificent and their contribution to philosophy, science, arts and its heritage in huge. I cried the first time I read the Rubayyat of Omar Khayyam, the beauty and sensitivity describing the deep relationship of a muslim and God it's outstanding and marvelous:
"There was the Door to which I found no Key; There was the Veil through which I might not see: Some little talk awhile of ME and THEE There was-and then no more of THEE and ME. Then of the THEE IN ME who works behind The Veil, I lifted up my hands to find A lamp amid the Darkness; and I heard, As from Without-"THE ME WHITHIN THEE BLIND!" Even his talk about Jesus and Moses: "Now the New Year reviving old Desires, The thoughtful Soul to Solitude retires, Where the WHITE HAND OF MOSES on the Bough Puts out, and Jesus from the Ground suspires."
The naturalness of the life of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, it's an inspiration in many senses. Denounced aristocratic privilege, rejected hierarchy, and adopted a formula of the career open to the talents. Bilal ibn Rabah, was an Abyssinian slave who became Islam's first muezzin, because he was known for his beautiful voice with which he called people to their prayers. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, had to be a deep devoted man to the One God and put Himself in the hands of God to see the soul in the eyes and in the voice of Bilal despite his condition. Islam is a religion of peace, mercifulness and forgiveness. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, after the conquest of Mecca declared an amnesty for past offences, except for ten men and women who had mocked and ridiculed him in songs and verses. Some of these were later pardoned by Him. And peace: "They are those who have been expelled from their homes in defiance of right, for no cause except that they say, 'Our Lord is Allah.' Did not Allah check one set of people by means of another, there would surely have been pulled down monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques, in which the name of God is commemorated in abundant measure..." -Qur'an 22:40 Jihad actually means "effort", "labour", it means the effort may come in fighting the evil in our own hearts. Even the Prophet, after the conquest of Mecca said, according to the companion Muhammad Jabir ibn Abd-Allah: "The Prophet returned from one of his battles, and thereupon told us, 'You have arrived with an excellent arrival, you have come from the Lesser Jihad to the Greater Jihad—the effort of a servant against his own evil desires." The goal of Greater jihad is to attain a harmony between islam (submission), iman (faith), and ihsan (righteous living). I think must christian people must understand real Islam and it's message of peace, mercifulness and forgiveness. Ignorance is the absence of clarity and, according to Buddha, the source of all evils. Cheers!
