Why do we pray ?
12:00:00 AM Saturday Nov 2, 2002

As a Moslim, I have always been intrigued by prayer, wether part of the daily prayer, the friday or the holiday prayer. I admit that I have hard times maintaining the daily prayer, but I find great pleasure, satisfaction, renewal and peace in the friday prayer as the speakers each time have some educational, inspirational and motivational topic to talk about. Yet one of the prayers I always keep dear to me is the one I'd do at any time any place, when something good happens to me or when I am in deep trouble. I'm not sure what it is really, other than being aware of God, that makes me and you perhaps pray, talk to God in dialect, arabic, french, english or whatever your language is, and sincerely ask him for help and ask him for a tip or to take it easy on you. May be you can find this topic interesting to talk about, while trying to dig deep into what makes us direct ourselves to God for benediction when we somehow feel out of reach, lonely, and down, or happy, lucky and thankful.

WHY DO WE PRAY? THATS A VERY GOOD QUESTION..

*GOD CREATED US AND GAVE US EVERYTHING THAT WE WANTED ..WICH IS OUR FAMILY,ROOF TO LIVE UNDER IN AND FOOD.

*LIFE IS LIKE A TEST..GOD WANTS TO KNOW IF YOU ARE A GOOD PERSON OR A BAD PERSON...SO WHEN THE TIME COMES ALLAH WILL PUT YOU IN HEAVEN OR TO THE IDIOT SHE-TAN!

Allah created us only to worship him.. worshipping includes tasbi7, 7amd, shokr, and istighfar.. but human beings being forgetful ( in arabic human is insan and it comes from the verb nasa which means to forget) and because of shaytan forget to do what we are supposed to.. so prayer was made one of the commandement as to remind us 5 times a day why we were created, meaning to worship allah. wa dakkir fa inna ddikra tanfa3o lmo2minine.. wa llaho a3lam

In response to Adna's question about khouchou3. Khouchou3 is being in a state close enough to feel the power and divine strength of Allah. it happens to certain people when in the middle of their prayers i.e. they feel a sudden urge to cry. Please try not to miss the Imams giving their speeches in Mecca at the end of Ramadan. You will see what I mean by and what the rest of us mean by Kouchou3. Peace and love and a happy Ramadan!!

Assalam Alykom,
Youssef,I tried to send you more details trough your email but I think your account is inactive. Anyway i think that Thanks to prayers we think of worship (hassana extra
for a good Niya), we make woudoe witch clean us and give us Hassana, we read Quoran(every letter with hassana), we thank Allah(every time with hassana), we forget the actually life and we think more about Addar Al Akhira, at the end we make doua?a that Allah will accept( Wa in saalaka Ibadi Anny Fainni Karib Ojibo Daawata Addae Itha Daani) then we please Allah and we stay close to him. Do you know that while praying Allah put our Khatay on our neck and they full down as you make Roukoua or
Soujoud?Do you know that the believer who meets Allah with
only day?s prayers Allah will forgive him? Do you know that the Muslim with out prayer is a Kafir? Do you know Allah forgives Al Kabair thanks to Assalat? so How can god forgive us if we refuse to do the minimum? if you have some time please go to this websites: www.islamonline.net don?t read the political news but search for Hadith and Sounna.
www.islamweb.org. just try to red about Islam whenever you need it,
whenever you think about it, henever you have time.

May Allah guide us all to the good way.

Assalam Alykom,
Thanks to god I was born in a Muslim an Arabic country so we believe at god with ?Fitra? first and thanks to our education. My first Islamic school was our house and my first teacher was my mother. She taught me that Islam is 2 parts: spiritual and logical. As a Muslims we must believe at the spiritual thing as we believe at the logical ones? A toaminoona Bibaadi Al kitabi Wa Takforoona Bi Baad?. We can believe at god without with out touching or seeing him so we can believe that prayer is a physical and spiritual practice that makes us close to Allah. It cleans our Khataya as the water cleans the dearth. My mother keep telling us: the day is 24 hours, if you conserve 30 min a day for prayers you will win?

Khoushou3 translates into humility: the state of being humble; setting pride aside and being in submission. I am not sure one can, nor should, force himself or herself into such a state. It comes naturally with awareness of one's place in the universe and in history. Don't go to prayer with the idea that you will lose yourself in some sort of funkadelic meditative world. On the contrary, be aware of who you are addressing and what you want to communicate to who you're addressing. Being aware of your relationship with God. This ultimately means that such awareness must be preceded by serious thinking about that relationship.

At the same time, bear in mind that one thinks about a multitude of things when they pray; things completely unrelated to prayer. That's not a bad thing. The sahabah used to say that sometimes they were organizing troops in their heads while at prayer. Sometimes you just can't help it. That's not a bad thing. We are human, after all.

peace all!
it is essential to find a balance in life. an islamic scholar explains this balance by reffering to four core relationships.first comes your relationship with God, then comes your relationship with yourself, the third one is with the society, which includes your family as well as ure friends, and finaly your relationship with the environment. Prayer is the backbone of the relationship with the person and God. It will be hard for anyone to keep at it, if he or she does not have "khosho3" or peaceful concentration. May God bless as all
and happy ramadan ;)

Hello everybody,
In whatever language or religion we pray, we should be aware that it's only between ourself and GOD. We don't have to report it to anybody so they're proud of us.
For me praying is being in peace, being in touch with Allah and be close enough. Beside that it is one of the 5 ammendements, praying is an obligation from our soul. For me it is the guideline of my life, I can pray anytime, anywhere and no matter what happened to me: being grateful, thankful, asking for a mercy from Allah or simply asking for an advice when I am lost in the way!
Thank you for giving me the chance to share my opinion, specially during this month of Ramadan.

Hello All,
Almost everyone agrees that prayer
is a spiritual contact between the worshiper and the supreme being, seeking happiness and confort in life, and expecting haven after death."More simple than that? I don't know."
Discussing religion issues can always raise some questions such as, Do we need to pray? What's going to happen to millions of people that simply don't practice their religion? Is there enough space in paradise for everyone,Or only for devout people?
I'am afraid that many people can characterize questions like these as disrespectful, annoying or sinful in the extreme.I am really unsure of how they might be interpreted.
However,I know that questioning arose difficulties due to differing views on the value of traditional versus modern ways.

Hello All,
I think we need to look at praying from two different perspectives:
1/ A duty: First we pray because GOD asked us to do it. So before even going through the benefits, the ideas behind praying. We have to keep in mind that is one of the 5 ammendments of ISLAM.
2/ A Chance: Praying is a continuous chance for all of us to talk to GOD, to ask for what we want, to thank about what we are given. It is an OPEN Communication Canal between us and GOD.
I am trying to be really brief here, but just a word for all the people who don't pray and say it's because we don't really understand why? Well Pray first because God asked us to do such, maybe he will help us understand WHY.
Regards,
Ilias

First of all, Ramadan Moubarak Saiid.
Hum! Prayer! What else can I say about prayer that no one else had already said?! Prayer is supposed to be a recognition or appreciation for god. Prayer is an action of love and respect that one is "REQUIRED" to simply perform everyday to praise god. Now, is prayer, to everyone else, what I just described above? The prayer, we see, is a cry for help almost like a bad-feelings basket, which most "worshipers" use to deposit their troubles. Thus we have established that there is more than one reason for prayer and I can go on and on with more reasons. The bottom line is that the reasons for prayer are relative to the person acting on it. Therefore, prayer is what YOU make it to be. You and only you have the definition of payer that suits YOU.

I wish for everyone in this world, Muslim and nonmuslim, true happiness.

Prayer is an opportunity to remember our creator because, as Inssans, we have tendencies to forget the source and sink of our destiny. It is both a physical and mental exercise in unification with Allah. My preferred prayer is Al hamdu li 'llah.

Salam all,
El-Ameera, I wouldn?t formulate it in any better sister.

Some people travel the world over, go through tribulations, use drugs etc... provided they get that specific spiritual experience or get in "touch" with God.
I am glad that during a moment of helplessness, loneliness or frustration. I can create that strong feeling anytime I want or need... simply by a simple prayer, or reading few chapters of the Quran.
The feeling of God?s presence is awesome, and the beautiful feeling that comes with it is above my words...this might sound silly, but occasionally such a feeling makes me feel like carrying an invisible machine gun...a spiritual one I mean...:) it helps me go through during hard times...
Not only I pray to Allah as to gain confort , but also because I love Him.

Perhaps before discussing what prayer does to/for you, there should be some common understanding of what the person believes or does not believe in. Escaping the real world is not a sufficient reason to pray because plenty of self-proclaimed atheists would indulge in many forms of meditation to do the exact same thing. Prayer carries with it an inherent characteristic of belief in a god. For what's the use of communicating with what one believes does not exist.

Salam all
My idea of praying is the need to complete our psychological balance to feel a non human power hovering over us ... sometimes life's issues can be so overwhelming that we feel that it would take an absolute power (ALLAH) to make the frustration go away, to make us feel better ... it is this feeling of loneliness, of helplessness, all of a sudden, nothing matters anymore, all you need is some peace of mind, a moment of true happiness. We also pray to thank the almighty for everything he has given you, and God knows we have a whole lot to be grateful for, we pray to ask God to give us strength to go on with our lives, we pray for him to help us become better people, being a good person is not that easy, if we do not believe in God strong enough, we pray to ask him to give us strength to get over our selfish selves, we ask him to help us carry on, to keep our hearts away from hatred, from anger, from depression, we pray for the Lord to confess your bad deeds, because only him can forgive us, and only him can help us fight the evil side of each one of us. Praying is meditating away from this superficial world, it is using our imagination to get as close to God as we possibly can, it is a lot more than just touching the ground with your forehead, or joining your hands together, it is an essential part of my day to day life that I wouldn't give away for the whole world ...
Ramadhan mubarik aala el jami3
May God hear all our prayers, and he will, we just need to mean them from deep down in our hearts ...

It's a relief for me to pray, an escape that i find everywhere and anywhere.a loophole that makes me feel that i'm not alone, and that God is there for me, and with just whispers inside me i can reach Him and talk to Him. Times are not quite the same always, sometimes you feel great and sometimes you fall deep, and there when we want something to cling to , and God is the one. I just feel so lucky that I believe in God, and not a pagan, moreover, being muslim. I always find it so appealing that connection that we ,as muslims, have with God, strong, tight, and so intense. Prayers are that time when i devote myself to my Creator, and the one i lean on. In everyday life, i pray for salvation, for strength and empathy. I use to pray daily, but things change a lot, and i know i'm not doing any good without prayers, but the waterfall takes everyone these days. All i can say to close my opinion, is Thank God for everything you gave me and You will for sure give me, cos all that we are is Yours, and we all belong to You.

Prayer transcends time and space. One shouldn't think of it as a task, because whoever says task says burden. Prayer is communication, and with communication comes burden alleviation. The root of the word in Arabic suggests "link." Hence, it is supposed to link you to God. Nothing prohibits you from communicating with God while sitting in bumper to bumper traffic and saying "I wish all these cars were to disappear." Perhaps that's a form of prayer. Most people that say they have problems keeping prayer seem to feel burdened by the iterative process of standing up, prostrating, sitting down, etc. I?ve never heard people question the spirit of Salaat, rather I?ve heard them express anger at it being so tedious, time consuming, and burdensome; a rather puzzling set of references considering that the longest Salaat takes no more than 5 minutes. Maybe the answer lies in the way people were taught Salaat, how it was something the elder people did and made the younger ones do as well. Maybe some feelings of rebellion are inherent in the weak protests I?ve heard. Regardless, follow the motto of ?form follows function? and you might find yourself opening up to Salaat more. It is simply a way for you to take a few minutes of your time and share your day with God. As you prostrate down, you are not forbidden from talking to Him and discussing that which comes to mind. Salaat is not a chance to chant dumb lyrics. It is a chance for you keep the link between you and God; it is a chance, one of many, but maybe one that counts more.

I beleive that by praying. we keep a touch and relation with God.As we need food sex people around. We need food for our spirits.Prayer is a way of keeping that strong touch with the strong power that we all feel it most when we are in trouble or when we simply can find an explanation to something.
I feel great when praying. I tend to do it everyday at the end of the day when I am working. This Ramadhan as AL HAJJA ALLAH EKHALIHA LINA is here with me. I will be going to the mosque everyday for ISHAA & TARAWIH.

well salat is farede 3lina no doubt about it some poeple think about it when the month of ramadan is here so they start then after that they forget about it!!! which is wrong and do not agree with it at all....well we pray because we have to be thankful to allah for everything our health, life, safety, and our success in our daily lives..it is the min that we can do as "3ibad allahe" and i do not see any reason for not praying as for example i live in the states and work all day long yet when i come home i always pray it before i do anything else some poeple do not care others use the reason of being in a non muslim country as a reason!!! well that is what you are going to take with you when you die you will be asked if you were praying or not jsut go back and see how little we were demanded to do and yet few do it!!!

Salam alaikoum all. I wanted to give you my opinion about the topic today, why do we pray? I never asked myself that question because it feels so natural to direct myself to Allah, and pray. ask for forgiveness, help and patience or to thank Him for his blessings and all the good things in my life. Yet it is in times of trouble that most of us realise how fragile we are and how powerless we are compared to Allah. Having taking some though tests in life's university ( as we all did I 'm sure), I came to the conclusion that even when poeple with good intentions let you down and disapear, there is and there always will be Allah. This is why I pray: "If Allah assists you, then there is none that can overcome you; but if He foresakes you, then who is there that can assist you after him?" Without faith in Allah we couldn't survive in this world. Salam and have a peaceful and happy Ramadan all. My thoughts are with all those who live far away from their loved ones but let us remember that even if we are missing some things in our lives, there are also muslims around the world who'll live this month in worste circumstances. Allah m3a sabirin. Maa Salam
